Howdy LSGRA Members and Friends,

If you thought May was event packed … boy did we have a great month in June!  We started off with a very well attended June monthly meeting.   Several members have acquired the “fun shirts” that Mike spearheaded – lovely Henley type shirts with an awesome graphic of the state outlined with rope, cowboy boot n spur and cowboy hat
( designed by Ron at MRGraphix ).  If you missed out on the first order, Mike will be making another order soon so get your size to him.  Those shirts are $35.

One much anticipated update from the meeting ( and a BIG THANKS to our friend Ron from MRGraphix ) … we finally have our updated LSGRA LOGO !  The Board approved the graphic and color at the June 24 BOD meeting.  Our Merchandising chair, Cowboy Barry, will be working on getting our flag, banner and Official LSGRA Member dress shirts and t-shirts underway.   More details after the July meeting on these shirts but we hope to have them available in August !   

Everyone had a great time at the Cowboy Roundup held at Cowpokes on June 21, 2008.  We want to thank Bill and Savannah for donating the keg at the beer bust!  We had a large turnout with over 40 indulging in the BBQ and Beer Bust.  Thanks to all our members who volunteered their time, talents and donated some food for the BBQ.  In our first Mini Rodeo … we had contestants enter 5 of the 8 events – pole bending, barrel racing, wild drag, goat dressing and patty toss.  Everyone had a great time … a big thanks to all our Contestants, our Rodeo Director (Cowboy Lance), our MC (Amanda Straddle), and our goat (Trustee J). 

A HUGE YEHAW to the LSGRA Royalty – Rip and Marsha – for hosting the LSGRA Train Excursion on Sunday June 22, 2008.  With the help of their guests on the Louisiana Pullman, which traveled though the Quarter and Uptown along the river to the top of the Huey P. Long Bridge and then back to the Moon Walk, this event raises $3555.  The money will be used to defray costs of the IGRA Convention and Royalty Competition hosted here Halloween Weekend.  We want to thank Jim Bridger and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad for their part in making this fundraiser such a huge success !

Be sure to check out the Upcoming Events page for a complete list of events in July and tentative ones in August.  We will be holding monthly beer busts at Cowpokes the first Saturday of every month – thanks to our host bar for having these events for us !  Because of the many requests, we will be doing another BBQ on Saturday July 5, 2008 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM with the beer bust running from 6:30 PM until 10:30 PM.  If you can volunteer some time (even an hour would help) for the Beer Bust so that a hand full of folks don’t get stuck working the whole time, contact me, Mike Andews.

Finally … we are in the process of finalizing details for the next Angola Prison Rodeo Roadtrip.  We will have all the details at the General Meeting on July 1 at Cowpokes – 7PM.   Mark your calendars now … Sunday October 5, 2008.  We will be taking three busses but don’t wait until the last minute to get your tickets.  Tickets will be available by mid-July.   Check the website for the flyer and details … July 15 !
